Alice Mcdermott Pinckney

ALBANY –  Alice McDermott Pinckney, 91, of Albany, died peacefully Tuesday, March 22, 2011,  at the Teresian House , surrounded by her loving family.  Alice was born in Watervliet, but lived most of her life in Albany. She spent many happy years with her devoted husband, Andrew, raising their seven children. Her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by her loving family and dear friends. She led a life filled with love and laughter and will be best remembered for her courage and faith and her Irish eyes that always kept us smiling.

Alice was a communicant for over 50 years of the former St. Catherine of Siena Church. She was a member of the staff of Our Lady of Hope Residence in Latham for fifteen years.  She also was a member of the Catholic Women’s Service League, Ladies of Charity, Christian Brothers Academy, The Academy of the Holy Names and Vincentian Institute Mothers Associations.

Alice was predeceased by her adoring husband Andrew M. Pinckney, Sr., and her loving sons Bertram D. and James J. Pinckney.  She is survived by her sons Andrew M. Pinckney, Jr. (Katy) of Waterford and Michael Pinckney (Debbie) of Albany; her daughters Catherine Pinckney of Worcester, MA., Bethy Finkle (Stephen) of Albany, and Peggy Gaudet (Jim) of Albany; her daughter in law Brenda Scovello; her dear sister Helen Casey of Albany; her sisters in law Lillian McDermott of West Palm Beach, FL, and Elizabeth Pinckney Donnelly of Albany; her cherished grandchildren Major Andrew M. Pinckney, III, U.S. Army (Jaye), Michael Halligan (Amberly), Brendan, J. Christopher and T. Gregory Halligan, Matthew and Charles Pinckney, Stephen Finkle (Amber), Meghan Finkle (Caris), Brittany, Michael and Sean Pinckney, and Jimmy and Mary Gaudet; her  great grandchildren Briley, Peyton and Chace Pinckney, and Brianna Halligan; and  many nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Connie Cheeseman.  She also was predeceased by her loving sister Margaret Dyer, and brothers Frank, Bertram, and the Hon. William McDermott.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Teresian House for their loving care and devotion to our mother. The loving kindness you showed our mother was overwhelming and we will be forever grateful to all of you.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Friday morning at 11:00, and from there to the Parish of Mater Christi (formerly St. Catherine of Siena), Hurst Ave., Albany, at 12:00.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.  Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, send a sympathy card, or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
