GUILDERLAND – Barbara A. Kahler, 93, passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hospice care on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from complications of Covid 19. Born on February 23, 1927 in St. Augustine, FL, she was the daughter of Elton and Agnes Duggan Beasley. Barbara grew up in Newburyport, MA, and graduated from Newburyport High School in 1944. She lived in the Capital District most of her life, and for the last three years resided at Atria Guilderland.
Barbara met her future husband while he was serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Barbara and Paul were married in 1946 and were together for 62 years until Paul’s death in July 2008. Barbara loved spending time at their vacation home in Cape Neddick, Maine. She enjoyed music, and had a special fondness and love of animals. With her kind heart, she took in many strays over the years, giving them a forever loving home. Barbara worked as a medical secretary at the VA Hospital in Albany for 30 years, retiring in 1984.
Predeceased by her husband and parents Elton and Agnes Duggan Beasley, her father and mother-in-law Paul and Mary Kahler, and her brother-in-law Donald Kahler, Barbara is survived by her devoted daughter Paula Cornell and her son in law Stephen Cornell; her brother-in-law Richard Kahler, three nieces and one nephew. In accordance with Barbara’s wishes, services will be held privately, with interment in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.
