ALBANY – Helen Homeyer Schaffer, 90, of Albany, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. Helen was born in Brooklyn, and raised in Greenville, but lived most of her life in Albany. She was employed by Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., and by Altman, Edward & Brown, before joining Fleet Bank in Albany. She enjoyed traveling by motor home with her husband, and also enjoyed bowling, reading, and crossword puzzles.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Arthur J. Schaffer, Sr. in 2004. She is survived by her daughter Mary S. Smith (Edward W. Jr.) of Albany, and by her son Arthur J. Schaffer, Jr. (Sherry) of Schenectady; her grandchildren Jennifer Shapiro (Tim), Shawn Schaffer, Jeremy Schaffer, and A.J. Atchinson; her great grandchildren Alexander Shapiro, Lily Schaffer, and Jordan and Vanessa Atchinson; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings John, Christopher, and Joseph Homeyer, Harriet Ackerman, and Mae Wilklow.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Friday morning at 8:15, and from there to All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany (behind CVS) at 9:00. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. The family suggests memorial contributions to All Saints Catholic Church, 12 Rosemont St., Albany, NY 12203.
