ALBANY – Iola Wilson Carter Iola left us to find her eternal spot in the sun on Monday, October 3, 2016.  Born February 28, 1916 and raised in Harlem, NY, she resided in Flushing Queens for her adult life until moving to Albany to be near her family in her later years. She started her career as a seamstress in the garment district, then stayed home to raise her family after which she worked in the financial aid department at Queens College where she enjoyed many happy years.

Iola was predeceased in 1981 by her husband Sam Carter.  She is survived by her son Fritz Carter and daughter Luberta LeBlanc as well as Sharon Carter and Jim LeBlanc; her grandchildren Jackie Dorchester (Joel), Cici Carter (Cody Cooper), Leon Rogers, Lukes Rogers; her great grandchild Ian Dorchester; and all the cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the Teresian House and Atria.  They’d also like to thank the Walsh Family for their support and love of Iola over the years, especially while at Teresian House.

Services will be at the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, on Saturday at 12:00 pm. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 10 am -12 pm.  Donations in Iola’s memory can be made to the Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12203.  Interment will be in Calverton National Cemetery at a later date.  To leave a message of condolence for the family or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
