ALBANY – Jacob E. Baker, 71, of Albany, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017, with his family by his side in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Jacob was born in Hudson, and was a graduate of Hudson High School. He lived most of his adult life in Albany. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1972, and was employed in the produce department of Price Chopper at various locations, most recently in Watervliet. He was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club, and a parishioner of the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church. Jacob raised rabbits for many years and was past president and registrar of the New York Rabbit & Cavy Breeders Association. He also had enjoyed playing basketball locally until age 50.
Jacob is survived by his beloved wife Susan Davis Neale Baker; his children William E. Baker (Erin) of Albany, and Karin Kane (Christopher) of Guilderland; his sister Ann Marie Baker of Livingston; his grandchildren Kelly Lopez (Rodney), Doris Kane, and Hayley and Sara Baker; and by his nephew Andy Geno; and his niece Becky Geno.
The Baker family would like to extend special thanks to their neighbor Mary Ellen Hoffman, for her help and support, and to the staff of St. Peter’s Hospital I.C.U. for the wonderful care they provided to Jacob.
A Life Celebrant service will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Friday prior to the service from 4-6 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
