GUILDERLAND – James Edward Brown, 87, of Guilderland, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Albany Medical Center. Jim was born and raised in Troy, the son of the late Paul L. Brown and Marjorie Jean Buckley Brown. He served in the U.S. Army and later reserves for a total of six years. He was then employed by the New York State Dept. of Education for many years. Jim loved jazz music, reading about politics and the presidents, completing the crossword puzzles in the NY Post and New York Times, and watching college and NFL football. His greatest passion was horse racing.
Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth F. Roper Brown. He is survived by his long time companion Judith Hynes of Guilderland, and other family members Bruce Lawrence (Rita) of Poestenkill, Gail Carson (Walter James Carson) of Texas, Linda Hursa (Michael) of Stephentown, and Charles Nagel (Brenda) of East Nassau; his brothers Curtis Brown and Michael Brown (Evelyn); his half brother Patrick Bywater; and by several step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother David Brown. He will be missed by all.
A graveside service will be held Friday the 24th at Memory Gardens in Colonie at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Please gather prior to 1:00 p.m. just inside the main gate around the circle. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.
