Joseph C. Scilipote

ALBANY – Joseph C. Scilipote, 92, of Albany, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, October 5, 2012.

Son of the late Anthony and Catherine Scilipote, Joe was born in Albany and lived there all his life.  He graduated from Philip Schuyler High School and served in the U.S. Navy.  Joe worked for 42 years at Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer, retiring in 1982.  In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and residing at the family’s camp on Helderberg Lake during the summer.  Joe loved puttering around the house and watching sports, especially the Yankees.  He was an avid bowler and participated in multiple bowling leagues throughout his life. Joe was a former member of the Albany Elks Lodge and was an active parishioner of the former Holy Cross Parish.  A devoted family man and a friend to all, Joe loved life and will be deeply missed.

Joe is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marjorie Uhl Scilipote, and by his children, Susan (Paul) Kaiser of Guilderland; Paul (Carly Wright) Scilipoti of Berne; Mary Jane Breedlove of Charlton; Teresa Scilipote of Albany; and Jean (Mark) Horn of Coxsackie.  He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Matthew  (Kim) Kaiser; Sarah (Todd) Rosa; Rebecca (Brad) Junco; Andrew (fiancé Danielle DeLeon) Breedlove; Jessica (Chris) Evans; Abby, Katie and Colleen Hammond; and Turi and Ian Scilipoti, and great grandchildren, Emilie and Brodie Kaiser; Allison and Ben Rosa; Lillie and Owen Junco; and Kaitlyn and Jack Evans.  Joe was the brother of Rose Yonkers of Rensselaer and the late Santo Scilipote, Mary Rapazzo and Sandy Cramer.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Fr. John Bradley, Dr. Jeffrey Perkins and the staff of Community Hospice of Albany, especially Christine, Joe, Joel, Deanne and Becky, for their compassionate care and support of Joe and his family during his illness.  Thank you also to Jim Wallace and Salome Komey for their gentle care of Joe in his final days.  The family also wishes to express its appreciation to their extended family and friends for the many expressions of kindness and concern during Joe’s illness.

Funeral services from Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Tuesday morning at 9:30am, thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave., Albany, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am.  Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Greenbush.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 pm on Monday.  Those wishing to remember Joe in a special way may send a contribution to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, New York, 12205.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, send a sympathy card, or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.
