GUILDERLAND – Letitia M. “Letty” Stevens, 88, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Teresian House. Letitia was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Edward T. and Margaret C. Donovan Stevens. She was a lifelong resident of the Albany area. Letitia was a graduate of Vincentian Institute, and St. Peter’s Hospital School of Nursing and also attended Siena College. Letitia served 50 years as a nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital, including holding Head Nurse positions. As a Head Nurse, she was responsible for the opening of the first ICU unit at St. Peter’s Hospital, and for the sixth floor of the Brady Farrell Wing, when it opened in the 1960s. She was a communicant for many years of All Saints Catholic Church and the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church.
Letitia is survived by her niece Concetta Ferragamo; her great nieces Margherita and Adrianna; her Godchild Joanne Monahan Rourke; her “sisters by heart” Victoria Womer, Jacqueline Nash, her dear friend Celeste DesChamps as well as many lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her brother William E. Stevens and sister-in-law Dianne Stevens.
Her family would like to thank the staff of the Teresian House for the loving care and respect that they provided her over the last two years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany (behind CVS) on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Tuesday morning prior to the mass from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Joseph’s Indian School, PO Box 100, Chamberlain, SD 57325; or to Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12203.
