Lorraine E. Boyle

DELMAR – Lorraine E. (Mahota) Boyle, 65, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2013 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Hudson, NY to the late William Mahota and the late Veronica (Witko) Mahota.

Lorraine grew up in Hudson and Greenport where she graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. After high school she attended SUNY Plattsburgh and graduated Cum Laude from the University at Albany.

She began work for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co. in San Francisco, CA and later transferred to New York Telephone Co. in Albany, NY. After completing her bachelor’s degree Lorraine accepted a position at the Bethlehem Central School District.

Lorraine often said she had the best job in the world because she loved the opportunity to spend time with the high school students. She frequently volunteered to chaperone extracurricular activities including dances, proms, field trips, and sporting events. One of Lorraine’s most cherished experiences was time the players requested she perform in the BC Eagle mascot costume at the Girls Varsity Basketball sectional and state tournament games.  She retired from the school district in 2008.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, cooking, jewelry making, and many crafts as well as reading, exercising, swimming, kayaking, and travel. Lorraine served as Co-President of the Delmar Home Crafts Club, Co-President of the Elsmere Elementary School PTA, and her daughter’s Brownie Troop Co-Leader.  Lorraine was always a strong supporter of her children’s interests and activities.  Most of all she loved being a mother and caring for her family.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 45 years, James, of Delmar, NY; her son Dr. James R. Boyle, Jr. of Carl Junction, MO; her daughter Raegan M. (Boyle) Maddalla (Joseph) of Troy, NY; her sister Ellen (Mahota) Hart (John) of Pleasant Valley, NY; her brother William Mahota of Paris, France; her niece Jennifer (Hart) Seidel (Robert) of Reistertown, MD; her niece Kristen Hart (William Ackourey) of Boca Raton, FL; her nephew Danya Mahota of  Brewster, MA; other relatives; and numerous friends.

As in life, Lorraine will continue to give, as she had chosen to be a part of the Anatomical Gift Program at the Albany Medical College.  In keeping with Lorraine’s wishes there will be no calling hours or public funeral service.

In lieu of flowers the memorial donations may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204) or the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, (2013 Albany Walk) (1111 Stewart Ave, Bethpage, NY 11714).

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. David Shaffer and all the wonderful people from NYOH, Albany Medical Center, St. Peter’s Hospital, Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, and Mass General Hospital who gave Lorraine outstanding care.  The family also wishes to acknowledge how the support from Lorraine’s many friends helped her persevere during her fight against pancreatic cancer.  To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
