ROTTERDAM – Louis L. Schmidt, 82, of Rotterdam, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 while surrounded by his family and friends. Born and raised in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Walter and CoraBelle Paige Schmidt. He was a lifelong Schenectady resident where he attended local schools and was employed by The General Electric Company for many years until his retirement in 1996.
Lou was a dedicated volunteer, with his brothers and sisters, to the Rotterdam Fire District #2. Lou also volunteered many hours of service to the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157. Lou was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses Mary Dergosits (Emery), Bette Toth (Andrew), RuthAnn Huszar (Arthur), his brother Walter Schmidt, his nephew Karl Huszar, his niece Corale Hilliker and his nephew Andrew Toth, Jr. Lou is survived by his wife Carol Huszar Schmidt; his son Kirk Schmidt (John); his sister Alice Fuller; his brother Richard Schmidt (Sharron-Linn); his sister-in-law Mary Schmidt; and by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family extends their thanks to Community Hospice for their support.
As requested by Lou, no services are planned. Lou had donated his body to the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program.
