BALLSTON SPA - Marilyn LeRoy Kindl passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, November 15, 2024. She was born in Syracuse on May 21, 1931 to Francis and Ottilie LeRoy of Oswego, NY. Marilyn was the eldest of three children. She grew up with her sister Margaret (Peg) and Francis (Frank). Marilyn graduated from Oswego High School and then pursued a degree in education at Oswego State University. Following graduation, she married Richard E. Kindl in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Peg and Joe Ellis.
Marilyn began a career in teaching which took many different forms. From a summer camp, Kindergarten, the nursery at Hope Church, continuing adult education, substitute teaching in Ballston Spa, and making sure that her own children had a multitude of experiences. Marilyn’s love of travel and history spanned her lifetime. Every family camping trip included landmarks and opportunities for learning. Later she went on trips with friends using Elderhostel's and with her brother Frank (Candy) and sister Peg. One trip was an Alaskan Cruise.
Marilyn was an expert seamstress who shared her gift with family, friends, and the clients from the Style Shop. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Sewing Guild. Besides the clothing and home goods Marilyn created, there were many items that received Best of Show and First Place ribbons at the Saratoga County Fair.
Marilyn gave to the community by volunteering her services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ballston Spa and the Saratoga County Parents Without Partners. She was always ready to sit and listen to her children, family, and friends. Marilyn absolutely loved having her family together, it warmed her heart. Her home was open to all and often had the delicious aroma of fresh baked bread or a pot of homemade soup on the stove.
Marilyn is survived by her six children, Kathy Herrington, Richard (Kathy) Kindl, Jean (Michael) Chamberlain, Dianne (David) Mealy, Claire (Barry) Valentino, John (Nancy) Kindl. Her grandchildren, Jenna Chamberlain (Jessica Caruso), Noah Mealy, Paul Chamberlain (Rhianna Arcuri), Adam Mealy (Jen), Marissa (Zack) Tefoglou, and Will Kindl (Ashley Schmitt), along with great-grandchildren Elora Moretto Tefoglou, Nora Mae and Vera LeRoy Chamberlain. Siblings, Francis (Candy) LeRoy and predeceased by her sister Margaret (Joseph) Ellis. Along with nieces, nephews, relatives and countless friends, who felt her warmth and generosity.
