ALBANY – Mario Maioriello, 76, of Albany, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Mario was born in Bellona, Province of Caserta, Italy, the son of the late Antonio Maioriello and Antoinetta Stellato. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1966, shortly after his mother’s arrival here. He was employed by J. DeBeer & Sons Baseball factory for a time, and then by the Laborers Union local 190 and the former Albany Felt Company. Mario loved to play bocci at the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society, where he was a long-time member. He loved playing cards and watching soccer games with his friends at the coffee shop. He also enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden, his adored fig trees, planting flowers, and his loyal dog Chico. His favorite name was Nonno, and his grandchildren loved him beyond measure.
Mario is survived by his beloved wife Santa Schittino Maioriello; his sons Davide of Latham, Fabrizio (Kim) of Loudonville, and Riccardo (Kiersten) of Latham; his cherished family friend Carlo Cafaro of Albany; and his adored grandchildren Gavin, Mateo, Antonia, Arianna, Francesca, and Santino Maioriello. Mario was the youngest of eight children and was predeceased by all his siblings except for one sister Maria Maioriello, sister-in-law Pinuccia in Italy and loving brother-in-law Joseph Schittino (Maryann) of Albany.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in All Saints Catholic Church, Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the church prior to the mass beginning at 8:00 a.m. Entombment will follow the mass in Memory Gardens, Watervliet Shaker Road, Albany 12205.
