ALBANY – Mary E. Carney of Albany passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Albany. Mary was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Martin L. Carney and Lillian E. Gannon Carney. She was a graduate of the class of 1951 Vincentian Institute, and was employed for forty years by the State of New York, serving as executive secretary to four executive directors of the New York State Board of Equalization and Assessment (now the Division of Real Property Services). Mary was a long time parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church and the former Holy Cross Church. At the churches she was a member of the senior citizen groups and various craft groups. Mary also enjoyed shopping and was very proud of her Irish heritage.
Mary is survived by her brother James J. Carney (the late Mary Lou) of Hagaman; her nieces Stephanie Carney Manske (Jason) of Brooklyn, Tricia Carney de Fuentes (Angel) of Norwalk, CT, and Elise Carney of Manhattan; and her great nephew and niece Nicholas Carney Manske, and Sydney Carney Manske. She was predeceased by her sister Veronica Carney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. in All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany (behind CVS). Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the church Friday morning beginning at 9:30 am. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations in memory of Mary be made to All Saints Catholic Church, 10 Rosemont St., Albany, NY 12203, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
