ALBANY — Mary Lou Gleason Seger, aged 85, died 28 April 2022 at her home.  Mary Lou was born in Albany on 1 September 1936 and lived in the city her entire life.  She attended Our Lady Help of Christians school and graduated from Cathedral Academy in 1954.  Mary Lou worked for 45 years in the New York State Departments of Audit and Control and Taxation and Finance, and was legendary for her knowledge of education law.  She retired in 1999.

Mary Lou was married to Joseph E. Seger for 62 years, until his death on 29 January 2020.  Together they enjoyed a long retirement including cross-country trips in their RV and time in the log house Joe built on Thompson’s Lake.

Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents John Joseph Gleason and Kathryn Marie Albert Gleason, who died in 1995 and 2002, respectively, and her brother John, who died in 2007.  She is survived by her daughter Michelle C. Seger, her sister Magdalene T. Wheeler, several nieces and nephews, and a circle of devoted friends.  Mary and Joe were devoted pet owners, and leave behind Susie and Ginger, who will be taken care of by a friend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning in All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany (behind CVS).  Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany on Monday from 4-7 p.m.  Interment will follow the service on Tuesday at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rensselaer.  To leave a message of condolence for the family or to obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
