Nancy M. O'Leary

ALBANY - Nancy Marie Schober O’Leary, 82 passed away at Glendale Nursing Facility on Saturday, October 5, 2024, after a short illness. Nancy was born in Yonkers on May 1st 1942, to Rose Soldatis Schober and Thomas Schober. She spent her early childhood on Griffiss Air Force Base before her family settled in Schenectady. Nancy attended St. Columba High School where among other accolades Nancy was Junior Class president and crowned Queen of the May, which her family never let her forget.

Nancy went to LeMoyne College and later Maria College to earn her nursing degrees. Nancy then spent her career at St Clare's Hospital. She worked most of her 42 years in recovery and operating rooms. Nancy was a legend at St.Clare’s known for her calmness under pressure.

At 21, Nancy met her future husband at a Catholic youth mixer. John (known as Jack to those who love him) and Nancy seemed like an odd couple at first. Nancy was quiet and Jack would talk to anyone and everyone. But at their core they held the same beliefs and faith. Jack and Nancy raised three children, Christopher, Jennifer and Jonathan. In the 1990’s, Jack and Nancy left city life for the quiet countryside where they built their home on several acres in Nassau down the road from their beloved family, Joanne and Michael O’Leary.

In her free time and after retirement, Nancy loved to read, shop, travel and she was a huge movie buff. Nancy was famous for her vast movie collection. Travel included family camping to Cape Cod, cruises and girls’ trips to the Outer Banks. Later, Nancy would travel to Florida for months to spend time with her best friend and sister, Norma. Nancy and Norma would sit side by side reading, and when they weren't out shopping, you could find them surfing the internet.

Nancy is predeceased by her mother and father, Rose and Thomas, her sister-in-law Joanne O’Leary, and brother-in-law William Hudson. Nancy is survived by her husband of 58 years, John O’Leary, and their children, Christopher (wife Megan) of Virginia Beach, Jennifer (husband Eric Kuebler) of Albany and Jonathan (wife Carrie) of St Augustine. Nancy will be dearly missed by her sister Norma Hudson, and her brothers-in-law Michael O’Leary, James O’Leary and his wife Karen and her sister in law Charlotte Dwyer. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Chloe, Maggie, Penelope and Jackson, her step grandchildren Cady and Connor Kuebler, Ryan SiIess, Ryley and Liam Johnson and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Nancy’s family would like to thank the staff of Glendale Home for the care they provided over the past 10 months. Nancy was a favorite among the staff for her humor and quiet ways.
