Richard A. Diefendorf

GLOVERSVILLE - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Diefendorf, who passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9th, 2024. Born on June 12, 1949 in Little Falls, NY, Richard lived life with gusto and was always able to find the joy in every situation. Even after he lost his sight, he never lost his lust for life. He graduated with honors from Geneseo University, something he was very proud of.

Richard met his wife Sharon in his later years and together they enjoyed a happy life full of love and joy. He was known for his generosity, his sense of humor and an infectious smile that lit up a room. He enjoyed cruises, Broadway plays, Yankees baseball, Syracuse basketball, trivia and spirited discussions. Richard even participated in and won a stock car race while blind. He was also a proud member of Central Mohawk Lions and Foothills Worship Center where he made lasting friendships and left a legacy.

Richard’s greatest joy, however, was his role as a father and grandfather. He doted on his family never missing a chance to share in their triumphs and offer words of wisdom. He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, quick wit and love knew no bounds.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon (Rhodes) Diefendorf, his daughter Candence Lowman, stepdaughters Melissa Brott (Howard), Katrina Goldfried (Evan), grandchildren Peyton Lowman, Riley Lowman, Emma Brott, Caleb Brott, William Goldfried and Emme Goldfried, two brothers Dean Diefendorf (Lynda) and Chauncy Diefendorf (Linda) and a sister Judy Heiser (Virgil), several cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Barbara Diefendorf, and a brother Dennis Diefendorf.

A memorial service will be held on September 28th at 11:00 AM at Foothills Worship Center, 305 Jansen Avenue, Johnstown, NY , where family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well-lived.  Though Richard is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the lives he touched and the love he shared. May he rest in peace. To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
