ROTTERDAM – Robert J. Marino, 70, of Rotterdam NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, unexpectedly, yet peacefully at his home. Bob loved making people smile, and he will be deeply missed by the many hearts he touched with his caring and kind presence.
Bob was born on April 20th, 1952 to Marion and Albert Marino in Albany, NY. After graduating from Christian Brothers Academy in 1970, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Siena College. Bob then started his own filing solutions company, Acme Business Systems, which he successfully owned and operated for more than 40 years.
As the oldest of three children, Bob played a significant role in his younger siblings’ lives, who remained of utmost importance throughout his entire life. On September 28th, 1974 Bob married his high school sweetheart, Debbie, who remains the love of his life. Until her passing in 2019, they shared 48 wonderful, loving years together and had 3 children, Nick, Allie and Mark. Bob dedicated his life to his family, coaching baseball and basketball for his sons, cheering his kids on at football, soccer, track, volleyball, and never missing a school concert or 6-hour dance recital. Bob shared his love of animals with his family, welcoming beloved family pets to experience the gift of a loving family. Bob’s father instilled in him a love of nature, and he could tell you the history of every tree on his property, a love he passed on to his children. His family was truly the light of his life.
Spending vacation time on the Cape May, NJ shore was one of Bob’s favorite pastimes. He loved teaching his kids to bodyboard, enjoying seafood with his family at the Lobster House, and watching the sunset from the Cove beach with his cherished wife. Bob was always ready to talk Yankee baseball, Siena basketball or stump you with some trivia. He enjoyed golfing with friends and family, and he especially enjoyed the time spent afterwards laughing with the group over drinks and a good meal. Bob loved food and took great joy in sharing meals with the special people in his life.
Bob always wanted to know what his dogs were thinking, and he always wanted to know the name of the person he was speaking with, whether making a reservation, placing an order, or mailing something at the post office. Bob understood the inherent value of kindness, accepting people without judgment, always willing to listen (and talk!). He always appreciated the warmth of the sunshine, the kindness of strangers, the opportunity to help, and the “Margaritaville” mentality to carry him through all his days.
Bob is survived by his loving children; Nicholas R. Marino (Melissa), Allison M. Marino and Mark J. Marino (Paula), 6 grandchildren; Emily, Natalie, Joseph, Madeline, Angelina & Jack. Also survived by his mother, Marion Marino, siblings Patricia Pierotti (Rick) and Tom Marino (Kelly). He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Deborah A. Marino (O’Connor), father, Albert J. Marino and grandparents Anthony & Angelina Davey.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Friday morning at 11:30 a.m., and from there to St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carmen Road, Guilderland at 12:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will follow the mass in Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet-Shaker Rd, Colonie.
