BRUNSWICK, NY - Ronald E. Schott, 91, of Brunswick passed peacefully from this life on Monday, September 2, 2024 at home, surrounded by his family. A native of Lansingburgh, he was the son of Hans and Dora Olsen Schott. Ron graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1950, where he was an all-time athletic standout and musical talent. He received his bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University in 1954 and his Masters in Education from Ithaca College.
Ron is fondly remembered as an educator and coach at Catholic Central and Lansingburgh High Schools. A former Coach of the Year at LHS, Ron was recently honored at a basketball contest between the two schools, having coached varsity basketball at both. He served for three generations as a revered coach in multiple sports, including founding the Brunswick Pop Warner football program and coaching its first and Tamarac Modified Football’s first league championship teams. He coached college football at Heidelburg University and served as an umpire, track official and referee in multiple sports.
Ron was an Army veteran of the Korean War Era, serving as an Army Security Agency Code Interceptor. He was a lifetime member of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee and contributed his gift of music through both the vocal and handbell choirs. A fitness enthusiast, Ron was a founding member of the Brunswick Planet Fitness, where he worked out until after his 91st birthday. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth A. (Morse) Schott, his children Mark E. Schott, Roger V. Schott and Lynne A. (David) Little, his grandchildren Patrick A. (Meghan Knab) Little, Daniel C. Little, Carly A. Schott, Tyler J. Schott and his great grandson Parker A. Little. He is also survived by his sisters in law Patricia (Kinne) Schott and Joan (Robb) Schott, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Gertrude O. Schott and brothers Victor Schott and Russell Schott.
Friends, family, former students and colleagues are invited to call from 1-2:30 p.m., followed by a memorial Celebration of Life Service at the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church at 990 Hoosick Rd. (Route 7) in Brunswick on Saturday, September 14. The service will be followed by a dessert reception where friends will be invited to sample Ron’s infamous “piece of each” pies. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be gratefully received by the Special Olympics and the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church.
