GUILDERLAND - Thomas J. Dorsey, Jr., 81, of Guilderland, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Albany Medical Center. Tom was born in Syracuse and raised in Albany. He was a graduate of Albany High School, and was employed for many years by the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. He volunteered his time at the New York State Museum.
Tom was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, canoeing, and hiking with one of his proudest achievements being the climbing of Mount Marcy twice. He was a leader for Boy Scout Troop 149 in Albany and was a member of the Rakowana Archery Club in Voorheesville with his son Aaron. In his younger years, he was an accomplished and skilled artist. Tom enjoyed sharing his deep knowledge of art and history. In particular, Tom was very well versed in Onondaga and Haudenosunee history and was actively involved in sharing his cultural knowledge. He enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod, Lake Placid and Florida with Paula. Tom will be remembered for his kindness and the love he had for his family.
Tom is survived by his wife, Paula Crisafulli Dorsey; his son, Aaron Dorsey (Lori) of Liverpool; his grandson, Nathaniel Dorsey; and his sister, Okanta Leonard of Nova Scotia.
Tom's family would like to thank the medical staff of NYOH, especially Dr. Mihir Raval for their dedication and selflessness while caring for him. They would also like to thank the staff of Albany Medical Center Progressive Critical Care unit for their tireless dedication to Tom and their support of his family during his stay.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Friday afternoon at 12:00 noon. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Friday morning after 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Martyrs Shrine at Auriesville, 136 Shrine Road, Fultonville, N.Y. 12072; or to The Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
